Oh yeah
In case you're living under a rock, you know that Greta celebrated her third birthday last week. I swear she seems so grown up all of a sudden. We had a well-child visit at the pediatrician's, and I feel like I watched my little bunny blossom before my eyes. The doctor asked her 15 or so questions, and Greta answered them as clearly, thoughtfully, and cutely as I imagine any three year old ever has. It was really great to see, knowing that Greta has not always been the most agreeable kid or even close to the most outgoing. It was only about a year ago that we had a playdate and her little counterpart buddy asked if Greta was deaf (basing it on the fact that she didn't speak a word the entire time). Girl is practically a chatterbox now but is fantastically unprecocious (in her mom's unbiased and humble opinion).
She is also in the 96th percentile for height. Hellllllo, nurse!
While looking at one house, Greta fell in love with the current owner's pink Pottery Barn chair. We've had it on our to-do list to buy Greta her own chair for a while (she had been sitting in a Bumbo chair every night, which we know is ridiculous [they're technically for kids up to 14 months], but she genuinely likes it). Anyway, we went to PB and let Greta pick out a chair and bought one with some of her birthday money. Of course she picked hot pink, which couldn't possibly clash with our family room decor more, but how could we say, "Pink is so for two year olds. Um, how about this nice red one?" to this face?
Okay, well, I did try to nudge her toward red, but it wasn't happenin'.

#1 Go Greta!
Love it, Fran! Greta is definitely looking very grown up these day (as grown up as 3 year old can be, I guess)! Our boys have the same chair - both in red actually but they only really had red or blue to pick from from "the more boyish colors." :)
#2 hahaha--she looks so happy in
hahaha--she looks so happy in that bright pink chair! i always try to veer her towards red when i see her. 'which hair tie is your favorite color? mine is red." "mine is this one!" (pink)
looking at the construction paper with the fuzzy ball things glued to it.
"this one is my favorite," pointing at the big red one. "which one is yours?"
"this one!" (pink)
i find it funny that she has two adult females trying to push her into making red her favorite color, but honestly, red is so much more adult than pink. i say you savor the silly pink while it lasts. before you know it she'll be all jaded and wearing red and black all the time. oh wait....now i'm just talking about myself. ;)
#3 the chair and the cute girl in it
Amanda - You might like to know that a 200 pound man named Pat has sat in the chair and it totally held him just fine, and you are far from 200 pounds, so it could be done. It's a low-rider, though.
Makiko - Greta is definitely a good eater. I mean, she is pretty picky, but at least she'll eat certain foods and will usually at least try new things. I would love to think it had to do with exceptional parenting, but I am positive certain kids just are more into food than others. "Olive of our eyes" - I love it!
Lavery - You would definitely enjoy her at this stage. She says the craziest things. So entertaining!
Christy - I thought of that, and you're totally right. We can't have our daughter clashing with her special chair, which she totally would if we talked her into the red one.
Anitra - I remember that you love pink! I love it as well, just maybe not so much in my living room. Oh well. Have not introduced her to Aerosmith. She is more of Portishead / Nick Cave (random) / Dan Zanes girl.
#4 Jealous
Totally jealous of the chair. Would absolutely put a chair (adult-sized) like that in my house. Wouldn't match a damned thing, but who cares? Greta has style!
#5 3 years old feels like a
3 years old feels like a solid milestone for the parents too. Wow, she's so darned cute. 97% for height!?!?!? I know that the genes must have something to do with it, but give me some tips on how you can get mine to eat. Evan is an "eats to live" rather than a "lives to eat" kind of guy. Happy Birthday Greta... the olive of our eyes!!!
#6 i still can't believe she is
i still can't believe she is 3. i feel like been in cali for maybe 6 months....but you were pregnant at my going away party...so strange how time can play mind tricks. this year will be so fun for you...i think that 3 to 4 is one of the best times. the conversation gets so fun....i wish i could come over and play with you guys!!!
#7 One thing is fo sho...
Her chair may not match your decor, but her attire, accessories, and toys will always match her chair. :) She looks adorable in that shot!
#8 A girl after my own heart, I
A girl after my own heart, I love pink too. Have you introduced her to the song "Pink" by Aerosmith? Love that song too.
